Synapses: Jean Luc Guionnet & Eric Cordier: instrumental device

Synapses IV was performed with La Destination (extended films) June 1998 at le Garage, Paris. Live two-track recording without treatment or reverberation. Synapses is amplified with micro-contacts built by Frank W Fromy / ArtCan 14.
Recording & editing: Eric La Casa

Synapses I was set up and recorded on 12 tracks January 1996 at Studio la Grande Fabrique, Dieppe by the musicians.

Synapses is fully improvised music - still it can also work on its own without further treatment.

Graphic design and concept: Charly Steiger

French sound-artists and improvisers Jean Luc Guionnet and Eric Cordier have built a large interconnected sound sculpture constructed out of parts of stringed instruments (guitars, detuned piano, and cello), percussive elements and metal resonators... all suspended from the ceiling with various wires and instrument strings. As all of these elements are hinged from the same point on the ceiling, each action affects the whole system. So if Jean Luc scrapes one of the wires, the whole systems will shake and bang against each other, with pretty much unplanned results. So their improvisations with the Synapse device are a fusion of post-Einsturzende instrument building, No Neck Blues Band pipe fights, and the conceptual playfulness of "The Way Things Go" filmmakers Ficheli & Weiss. - aquariusrecords.org
